Alberta health union warns of job action after bargaining breakdown with Dynalife abhealth ableg abpoli

The union representing health-care workers employed by Dynalife said Thursday they want to get back to the bargaining table after informal mediation was unsuccessful, but the impasse could lead to job action.Sign up to receive daily headline news from the Calgary Herald, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.

The Health Sciences Association of Alberta said its members are looking for wage parity that will see all of Dynalife’s employees get the same compensation and benefits as those workers who transitioned from APL. Next week, negotiations begin on an essential services agreement — or plan for providing services in the event of a strike or lockout — which must be in place before formal mediation.

HSAA president Mike Parker said Thursday they’ve spent a year at the bargaining table, and two days in informal negotiation, but have made no progress. “Our members are very clear they are not interested in a race to the bottom on wages. They want equity, they want fairness and they want their wages to be the same. That’s it,” he said, adding lab workers at Dynalife haven’t seen a wage increase in seven years, and now work side by side with those with more benefits and 10 per cent higher wages.Advertisement 3
