Mauro Chies, interim Alberta Health Services president and CEO, credited the negotiating teams for working “tirelessly” for months to make the new collective agreement a reality.

“We extend our thanks to HSAA staff and the healthcare teams they work with for their exceptional work and dedication to serving Albertans,” he said in a Thursday afternoon news release. According to that release, AHS and HSAA “have agreed to work together in an effort to address recruitment and retention to remote and rural communities in Alberta.”“HSAA members – which include respiratory therapists, lab workers, paramedics, mental health professionals and others – continue to play important roles in the health care system and in the lives of Albertans,” he said.

The agreement includes a pay increase of one per cent retroactive to Oct. 1, 2021, and bumps of 1.25 per cent on Sept. 1, 2022 and two per cent on April 1, 2023. Parker said the agreement also included progress on benefits and other work-life balance provisions, including a new mental health support program. The government was expected to comment later Thursday, after the contract was ratified.
