Stacey Graham, now 40, received the highest-ever sentence in Alaska for an unintentional vehicular homicide — 40 years in prison with 8 suspended — for killing two children walking on a sidewalk. The state Supreme Court has ordered that he be re-sentenced.

Graham later pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder, and a judge sentenced him to 40 years in prison with eight years suspended. As the Supreme Court noted inGraham said he took responsibility for the crime, saying at his sentencing hearing he wanted to warn others against driving drunk and that, “it only takes once. It can, it will, it did.”
