With the upcoming onset of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year , the question of where to attend services is high on the list for many Jewish families and singles.
Recognizing the often high price tag attached to the experience, Chabad of Alameda is offering their friendly and welcoming services for free for individuals of all ages in the Alameda Jewish community. While some may not be affiliated with a synagogue, others may find the cost to attend unaffordable, particularly in light of today’s economy.
By providing free services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur in a warm and inclusive setting, Chabad of Alameda hopes to accommodate those who may otherwise not celebrate the holidays. Chabad’s “user-friendly” services make for an enjoyable and meaningful experience for the observant from beginning to advanced. Song, commentary and the use of English-Hebrew prayer-books invite individuals of all levels to become active participants in the service.
To accommodate those who would otherwise not participate in formal Rosh Hashanah synagogue services, Chabad of Alameda’s Rabbi Meir Shmotkin is promoting a 30-minute Rosh Hashanah ceremony that includes the holiday’s primary observances and is open to all. The “Shofar in The Park” will take place from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Monday at Alameda’s Rittler Park.
Families are also invited to experience the joy and connection of community to usher in the new year at a pre-Rosh Hashanah fair and community dinner. A special evening of connection and celebration for Jewish women is also planned at the annual Challah Bake.
