A north Alabama man has been indicted on federal charges that he violated U.S. sanctions against Iran.
The 15-count indictment, unsealed Tuesday, charges 69-year-old Ray Hunt with federal offenses related to an illegal scheme to export goods originated in the U.S. to Iran, according to the Northern District of Alabama U.S. Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Department of Justice.
According to the indictment, since at least November 2017, Hunt conspired to export U.S.-origin parts used in the oil and gas industry, including control valves and oil tubing, through his Alabama-based company, Vega Tools LLC, to customers in Iran. If convicted, Hunt faces a maximum of up to 20 years in prison and up to a $1 million fine for violating U.S. trade sanctions against Iran.
A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
