Umo Eno, Akwa Ibom state governor, has announced a new minimum wage of N80,000 for civil servants in the state.

Eno made the announcement in a memo issued by Ini Ememobong, the state’s commissioner for information and strategy, on Wednesday. “To ensure a smooth rollout of this policy, the governor has also constituted an implementation committee, which has been given one month to deliver its report on how the new wage will be executed,” the memo reads.

The 15-member implementation committee will he chaired by Effiong Essien, head of the civil service in the state.Meanwhile, Nasir Idris, Kebbi state governor, has also approved N75,000 as the new minimum wage for the state’s civil servants.“Mr governor has shown that he is with the workers in the state. We proposed three tables for him,” Usman said.“We proposed N72,000, N73,000, and N75,000, and he decided to go for N75,000, which shows he is for the workers.

“He also said the payment starts this month of October, with salaries categorically set to be made available to workers in the next 72 hours.”
