In finals action on the penultimate day of the national showpiece, Caster Semenya easily added the 1,500m crown to her 5,000m title and Ryan Mphahlele delivered a storming final lap to claim victory in the men’s 1500m.

Antonio Alkana easily kept his 110m hurdles title and veteran jumper Khotso Mokoena landed his 13th SA mantle as he won the triple for the seventh occasion.

The men’s 200m was always going to be the flagship event of the championships with a star-studded line-up. However, two of the main contenders fell out of the reckoning. Simbine’s nearest rivals time-wise are Chederick van Wyk , Theodore Young , Phatuthezo Maswngani and young 100m silver medallist Thando Dlodlo .

Jobodwana, still struggling to find his form of four years ago, was all smiles after his race, where he turned and smiled at runner-up Duke Kuali on the home straight.
