According to Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, Ajax Amsterdam centre-back Lisandro Martinez's move to United is now edging closer as the defender looks to join his former manager in England.
The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in this transfer window, with United and Arsenal actively pursuing the Argentine. With Mikel Arteta said to be looking for a left-sided defender, Martinez's name was the one circulating most among media outlets as the Spanish tactician looks to provide competition for the likes of Gabriel and Ben White in the Gunners' backline.
The Argentina international was voted Ajax's Player of the Season last campaign under the tutelage of Ten Hag, and with the Dutch tactician said to be keen to bring him to Old Trafford, this is perhaps the reason why Martinez has turned down the opportunity to make his way to north London.Share
