South African airline Airlink resumed flights to Nampula, Mozambique on Thursday, following a temporary suspension due to a court order threatening the seizure of its aircraft. The issue arose after two Mozambican nationals, who were offloaded from an Airlink flight in Johannesburg for unruly behavior, sought legal action against the airline in Mozambique.

JOHANNESBURG - South African carrier Airlink will on Thursday morning resume flights to Nampula in Mozambique after the flights were cancelled on Tuesday. This followed the intervention of South African and Mozambican officials, who granted Airlink permission to enter Mozambique without the threat of an aircraft seizure . Airlink has a court order against it for the seizure of at least three of its aircraft.

In December, two Mozambican nationals were offloaded from an Airlink flight in Johannesburg for unruly and threatening behaviour. They subsequently took Airlink to a Mozambican court to challenge this action. And while they received an order to seize the aircraft, court officials were unsuccessful in their attempts to execute it. The airline sought the intervention of the Department of International Relations, the Department of Transport, and the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA). “While an attempt to seize our aircraft remains a possibility as long as the Nampula provincial court order has not been withdrawn, we have been assured that local officials will not attempt to execute it,” said Airlink's CEO, Rodger Foster
