Air quality continued to deteriorate to unhealthy levels in more locations in the country, especially the west coast of the peninsula.
An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100 ; 101 to 200 ; 201 to 300 ; and 300 and above .The Environment Department on Monday said haze has worsened, with 13 locations in Malaysia registering unhealthy air quality. Ten other locations – Batu Muda, Putrajaya, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Klang, Banting, Johan Setia, Port Dickson and Alor Gajah – recorded API readings of between 115 and 155.
As such, he said, the administration of all schools and kindergartens should constantly monitor the API and arrangements to stop classes will have to be made if the level breaches 200. The Environment Department, said Mr Wan Abdul Latiff, had intensified enforcement and increased its daily patrols in areas prone to open burning.
