An excessive heat watch is set for Friday through Sunday across large parts of New Jersey as the heat index approaches 105 degreesThe heat will continue to build on Wednesday in the New York City area and it won't let up for a few days - and it will come with an air quality alert today.is in place until 11 p.m.

The heat will continue to build, with the hottest days expected to be Thursday and Friday, with highs in the mid-90s. Temperatures will go back down over the weekend, but there is no real break expected in the near future. The warm, humid weather will be downright dangerous — and not just because of the higher temperatures and humidity, but because of the cumulative effect and the lack of relief overnight.

Friday’s forecast high of 94 degrees would approach the record for the day for Central Park. The all-time record for the month of June is 101. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is activating the National Guard to help people in the heat. The MTA said heat patrols will be deployed to inspect train tracks to keep service running. In New Jersey, some schools have early dismissal for the rest of the week due to the scorching temperatures.
