This is part of the national rollout of the sector in South Africa’s coastal provinces in previously disadvantaged fishing communities.

Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Minister Senzeni Zokwana is set to launch the small-scale fisheries sector next Tuesday in KwaZulu-Natal province, where 2,184 such operations have been identified.

This is part of the national rollout of the sector in South Africa’s coastal provinces in previously disadvantaged or marginalised fishing communities. The department has worked with coastal communities in setting up co-operatives, registering them with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission and providing extensive training in fishing and co-operative management. KwaZulu-Natal is the second province to be launched after Northern Cape Province.
