In a marathon session at Holyrood on Tuesday, more than 150 proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill were voted on by MSPs
The age at which people can apply to legally change their gender in Scotland will be lowered from 18 to 16 after an 11th-hour attempt to amend controversial legislation failed.
A final vote on the legislation, which is aimed at simplifying and speeding up the process for trans people to change their legally recognised gender, is set to take place on Wednesday. The length of time a person must live in their new gender will also be cut from two years to three months, with a further three-month “self-reflection period” before a gender recognition certificate is issued.
