After punishment levied, Argos-Riders rematch now in peril following COVID outbreak COVID19 CFL
Video clearly showed Williams violently throwing Richardson’s helmet at him after ripping it off the Argo’s head, for which he received a one-game suspension when many felt it would be two. Truth be told, Williams should have been booted from last Saturday’s game, but no official was on the field to see the incident.
“Such pre-game hostilities are unacceptable and the use of a helmet as a weapon is especially dangerous,” said CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie in a statement. “Neither is to be tolerated.” Marino didn’t suit up against the Argos as he served the first game of his suspension. He wasn’t going to play this Saturday in the rematch at Mosaic Stadium, though that game is now very much up in the air.
Assuming the Argos will be in Regina at some point during the next few days, they will return home to play host to Ottawa on July 31.But this a bad look on the CFL and specifically the Riders, by far the most arrogant franchise in the CFL.
