The City Council unanimously agreed to resume their deliberation at a Jan. 31 special meeting after more than six hours of interviews and public comment
The Chula Vista City Council postponed early Wednesday appointing someone to the vacant District 3 seat after failing to reach a consensus.
The council members’ decision came after more than six hours of interviewing 10 finalists who applied for the council seat. They also heard from more than two dozen people who heavily criticized city officials for their Council members spent more than three hours interviewing the 10 individuals seeking the seat left vacant after former Councilmember Steve Padilla was elected in November to the state Legislature. Should someone take the oath of office next week, they will serve until December 2024 to finish the remainder of Padilla’s term.
Each council member nominated their top candidate but after a few rounds, no single nomination earned the necessary three votes to pass.
