After being mocked by Ted Cruz during SCOTUS hearing, 'Antiracist Baby' book hits bestseller list

WASHINGTON — The “Antiracist Baby” book that U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz grilled Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson about was the hottest-selling children’s book in America this week.
Amazon listed the picture book by Ibram X. Kendi as the No. 3 bestseller on the site on Thursday morning. Four different versions of it — in hardcover, board book, e-book and audio formats — held the top four spots on the bestselling children’s books rankings on the site. In an exchange that went viral online Tuesday, Cruz flipped through a copy of the picture book as he questioned President Joe Biden’s Supreme Court nominee, who would be the first Black woman to serve on the court. His staff displayed chart-sized copies behind him.The Texas Republican said the book is taught to students in pre-K through second grade at Georgetown Day School, a private school where Jackson serves on the board of trustees.
“There are portions of this book that I find really quite remarkable,” Cruz said. “One portion of the book says babies are taught to be racist or antiracist, there is no neutrality.”“Do you agree with this book that is being taught to kids, that babies are racist?” Cruz asked. “Senator,” Jackson said, pausing for eight seconds before continuing: “I do not believe that any child should be made to feel as though they are racist or though they are not valued or though they are less than, that they are victims, that they are oppressors. I don’t believe in any of that.”
