Eritrean star Biniam Girmay has withdrawn from the UCI Cycling World Championships over injury despite reports that the African star has been denied a visa.
Eritrean star Biniam Girmay was granted a UK visa last week prior to withdrawing from the UCI Cycling World Championships citing injury, according to the Home Office.
"All visa applications are carefully considered on their individual merits in line with the Immigration Rules." The UCI is yet to respond to requests for comment, but the issue is certain to be raised when president David Lappartient and Paul Bush, chair of the championships, attend a press conference in Glasgow on Thursday evening.
But he pulled out of the event on Wednesday morning, issuing a statement via his Intermarche Circus Wanty team which said he was unable to race due to injuries sustained in a crash at the Clasica San Sebastian last weekend.
