French President Emmanuel Macron has wrapped up a meeting with Paul Biya, his counterpart in Cameroon, the first port of call on his three nation tour. He reiterated that France would continue to support Africa's security needs.

France is reconfiguring its posture in the Sahel after falling out with the military junta in Mali, the epicentre of a 11-year-old jihadist campaign in the region. The reconfigured mission, he said, will extend"beyond the Sahel, to the Gulf of Guinea and second-layer countries which now have to face terrorist groups which are expanding and shaking up the whole region".

Across the region, thousands of people have been killed and more than two million have fled their homes.
