Childhood diseases such as measles, tetanus and polio are on the rise in Ethiopia's Tigray region after vaccination rates declined amid the ongoing war in the region, according to regional health officials.
Rights groups say deaf people are discriminated against in UgandaRights organisations representing people with hearing impairments in Uganda have called on government bodies and the private sector to facilitate information access to those who are deaf,An estimated one million people are deaf in Uganda, according to the Initiative for Social and Economic Rights .
“If we integrate sign language into the teachers' training, then what you are doing is rolling out teachers that know sign language so that the teacher will be able to sign for a deaf student, likewise to doctors, nurses, police officers, and court, among others,” said Elizabeth Atori from ISER.
