Ethiopia’s lower house of parliament has approved a state of emergency in the country’s Amhara region. The cabinet had announced the emergency measure earlier this month, following on-going clashes with the national army and local special forces.
Oil marketers in Nigeria have warned that the cost of petrol could rise again amid a foreign exchange crisis.
The value of the naira has continued to freefall at the foreign exchange market since the government unified the exchange rates. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria says they fear fuel prices will continue to increase as long as the dollar rises in the foreign exchange market. Chinedu Okoronkwo, the association's president, explained that"with fuel subsidy removal, the government is no longer determining pump prices but the market forces".
