People living in a slum next to a wealthy area of Rwanda's capital city have been barred from leaving or entering their homes by police. Residents told a BBC reporter that their basic rights were being violated by the government.

Reservists in many other parts of the country have also been told to report to their respective head offices. There were scenes of mothers, children and wives crying as they bid farewell to their sons, fathers, brothers and husbands. Tigray leaders have accused Eritrea of joining forces with Ethiopian troops in the western parts of their shared border.
