Senegal stuttered into the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over nine-man Cape Verde on Tuesday.
The Cape Verdians suffered a blow with 20 minutes gone when Patrick Andrade was initially shown a yellow but after consultation it became a red following a tackle by the midfielder on Saliou Ciss. The Lions of Teranga came close five minutes after half-time when a cross was whipped into the Cape Verde box and headed back out to Pape Gueye on the edge of the box who rifled a powerful effort narrowly over the bar.
Gueye stepped up to take the resulting free-kick and curled his effort just wide of the top right corner with substitute goalkeeper Marco Riosa looking well beaten. Soon after, Riosa was called into action once again and made an excellent save to deny from Mane's fierce shot just inside the box.
