However, Mohamed Abdelmomem’s first half finish proved enough to get them over the line and a spot in the knockout stages alongside the group winners Nigeria. With entry into the last 16 already confirmed, the Super Eagles dropped Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon to the bench with Alex Iwobi and Umar Sadiq granted berths.
The Super Eagles brushed off their rustiness in front of goal ten minutes following halftime and took the lead through Sadiq from a clever pass by Kelechi Iheanacho.
