The reality of Hayim Cohen’s health came into question Wednesday as Harris County...

and searched his home. In the brief footage, Cohen is described as standing over a sibling and hitting him with a belt.

Judge Danilo Lacayo watched the video and replayed it several times at his bench. Although the child’s cry could be heard as the belt struck him, Cohen's lawyers depicted it as normal parental discipline. Police arrested Cohen in 2019 on an"indecency with a child" charge involving a foreign exchange student. The bail hearing focused on whether he violated the conditions of that bond. He was prevented then of going within 1,000 feet of places where children may be, such as a school, but he was not prevented from being around his own children. Reports of inappropriate behavior continued but authorities were unable to garner enough evidence to merit a criminal charge.

One of Cohen’s defense attorneys, Leslie Foy, noted that prosecutors didn't bring any medical experts to court to testify on the extent of the defendant’s health.
