'We've called for an investigation by the Mayor and the MMC.'

ActionSA is calling for an investigation into the non-payment of Fleet Company Afrirent which has suspended services to the City of Johannesburg due to an unpaid debt of over R90 million.

The suspension affects more than 4 000 vehicles, including those used by the Johannesburg Metro Police Department and PikitUp. ActionSA in Johannesburg says the suspension affects public safety as well as efficient service delivery to the city. ActionSA Regional Chairperson, Sello Mabelebele, “Today, JMPD, I have not seen any JMPD. In fact, since yesterday I have not seen any JMPD vehicles on the road. The question that you and I should be asking is, are we safe? For us, this is a crisis, a crisis because we cannot run without police. In fact, we’ve called for an investigation by the Mayor and the MMC responsible to institute an investigation, and should it happen that they find people who are responsible for this.
