Abbott Elementary boss Quinta Brunson breaks down the finale and what's coming next in season 2.

wrapped up its first season this week, as second-grade teacher Janine Teagues broke up with her long-term boyfriend Tariq Temple as he wanted to pursue his rap career, while Barbara Howard considered retirement. And they that thought the most stressful part of a zoo trip would be the kids.about how the season 1 finale sets up a second run that will focus more on the personal lives of the teachers.

Speaking about the big breakup, Brunson teased that it's not the end of Tariq just yet, saying:"I don't want to give anything away, but I feel like we will be seeing more of Tariq in the future. I do think that they are broken up and things are over... But I don't think you've seen the last of him."We're going to get into our writers room and talk about it, but to me, Janine is now on a journey of finding herself. She's been with this person for years. 10 years.

"I don't feel like she's going to hop into anything immediately with Gregory," she added."Gregory is also, he just made the decision to stay at Abbott to be a full-time teacher. He has that to worry about — what that means for him, what that looks like, making that kind of commitment."So I think right now, these are two individuals who are growing up, and we'll continue to see them meet in the middle of that growing up during the second season...

Speaking about some of the other characters, Brunson specifically mentioned wanting to explore how Barbara would react with non-binary kids in her class, how Lisa would try and support her while manager divorce, and how Jacob will deal with whatever the writers can think to throw at him in school.
