Aaron Boone all for Hal Steinbrenner’s deep Yankees dive.
Steinbrenner told the Associated Press on Thursday that the Yankees were looking into bringing in an outside company to evaluate the club’s analytics wing and “baseball operations in general” as they enter the final weeks of a disastrous season.“I think it’s something that they’re looking at everything,” Boone said Sunday before ending a 10-game road trip against the Astros at Minute Maid Park. “I think it’s something that we’ve, on some level, wanted to do for years.
In the meantime, the Yankees recalled Greg Weissert from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his spot in the bullpen. The veteran first baseman advanced to taking live batting practice last weekend in Tampa, but returned to New York midweek for a checkup.
