A behind-the-scenes image from A24's Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, shows the production team behind the upcoming horror series working alongside the original film's final girl. The upcoming horror series is set to explore the history of the foreboding summer camp long before Pamela Vorehees and her son Jason began their respective bloody and brutal killing sprees.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a Twitter post shared by Tananarive Due, the author posted a production photo for Crystal Lake season 1 as the writing team and producers gathered to develop ideas for the Friday the 13th prequel. Alongside the author herself and Fuller, Adrienne King, who portrayed the original film's final girl Alice Hardy in the 1980 slasher and its 1981 sequel, can also be seen in the photo beside Fuller. The original Friday the 13th star is currently expected to star in the series in an undisclosed role.
Furthermore, franchises, including Halloween, Scream, and The Evil Dead, have been revisited through continuations set long after prior installments or alternatively set directly after specific installments in new storylines retconning the events of prior films. With audiences sharing their excitement for returning horror icons amidst the genre's increased popularity, the Friday the 13th franchise ideally returns to the mainstream.
The Friday the 13th franchise has had an unshakable place in pop culture for over 40 years. As such, Due's photo brings some excitement, especially with the involvement of King herself. Furthermore, Due's post once more reiterates Fuller's hopes for Crystal Lake's season 2 to be greenlit, allowing speculation about whether his series could potentially adapt the events of the original film if it proves to be successful.
