One tumultuous year later, Hugh L. Fraser provides updates on governing body\u0027s major changes and new initiatives in wide\u002Dranging interview.
That kicked off five months of ever-widening, deepening crises at Hockey Canada — as revealed in news reports, and at a series of riveting parliamentary hearings where numerous top leaders of the NSO arrogantly and defiantly insisted, in reticent testimony, that major issues in question by and large were overblown, untrue, or already fixed.
Also in October, an internal governance review commissioned last summer by Hockey Canada was completed by former Supreme Court justice Thomas Cromwell. Among his many recommendations was that a one-year transitional board of directors oversee numerous substantive changes at the NSO, as chosen by an independent nominating committee.
In a phone interview on Friday, Fraser provided updates on various major issues of change, and sources of discontent last year, that he and the transitional board are overseeing.Article contentWhat would you say has been the transitional board’s biggest challenge? Fraser: “My understanding is that that report was completed and submitted to our independent third-party panel, through that process that was established some time ago now. It is as intended, to be completely independent, so once Hockey Canada initiated that process — in this case, an investigation was launched — that report gets submitted to that panel, and that panel determines what happens after that, whether it will go to a hearing stage, or however it’s going to conclude.
What has Hockey Canada done to satisfy concerns raised last summer by women’s national-team players, including safe-sport issues and fears of possible funding rollbacks?
