“We are certainly in difficult spot where, do we ask people to pay more or do we gut into some of the services people need and want in our city, especially where we’re growing?” Austin said. If HRM decides to increase the tax bill by four per cent, the tax rate will fall by six per cent from last year for residential properties and four per cent for commercial properties.The average residential property assessment is around $300,000. A four per cent increase would mean homeowners would pay an additional $86 on the average tax bill.
