TRURO, N.S. — The Nova Scotia Nature Trust is an organization that makes it possible for woodland owners to have their properties become protected forever.

At the end of 2022, the Nature Trust celebrated that they had acquired 15 properties over the year which translates to 1750 acres being protected.
In recent times, there have also been programs developed that encourage woodland owners to enter into a sustainable forest carbon management plan that allows the landowner to undertake a limited amount of silviculture and harvesting to make the woodland sustainable from a carbon sink perspective. This allows the landowner to be eligible to acquire financial returns for the “carbon credits” they provide to the carbon marketplace.
The ecologically valuable lands may also be donated to the Nature Trust. Tax receipts will be provided to donators., provides significant tax incentives for the donation of land that is determined to be ecologically sensitive land.
