Still, both those numbers are much greater than the 17 percent of all Americans who got last year’s vaccine, according to thefrom the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That suggests there’s ample room to make inroads with those who held out but might be open to getting a booster in the next few months.
Covid vaccination rates have declined sharply since 2021, when President Joe Biden pinned the success of his first 100 days in office to getting the vast majority of people vaccinated. More than 80 percent of Americans eventually received their first shot. DeSantis, who has previously expressed skepticism of the vaccines as Florida governor, hosted a roundtable this week during which state surgeon general Joseph Ladapo claimed healthy people don’t need to worry about the virus, and that getting the latest shot was “not a good decision for young people and for people who are not at high risk.”
