The Gauteng High Court dismissed the application of a convict who sought to practice as a legal practitioner and advocate.The court found that the applicant had failed to give a full and open account of his crimes.
Vatsha was sentenced for shoplifting in 1989 when he was 16 years old. In May 2002, he was also sentenced for escaping from police custody at 29 years old. The convictions made him unfit to practice. The court ruled that Vatsha misrepresented the facts and ignored concerns over irregularities flagged by the Johannesburg Society of Advocates . The court expressed disappointment with the Legal Practice Council , which failed to flag the inconsistencies in Vatsha's applications and affidavits.
