John Fisher recently maxed out a donation to Ohio Rep. Mike Carey, a climate change skeptic.
As far as publicly searchable donations go, until 2018, Fisher regularly dumped hundreds of thousands of dollars to conservative PACs that dispersed his money to a wide swath of candidates. Over the last few years, Fisher's political donations have drastically tapered off, though he still gives to a few individual politicians from both parties. He also regularly gives money to the Charter Schools Action PAC, Major League Baseball's PAC and the Gap Inc. PAC.
During the 2021-22 election cycle, Fisher has thus far given to just four candidates in total, two of whom are from Fisher's home state of California. Carey, meanwhile, is a little-known Ohio congressman whose win against his Democratic challenger in November was already well-assured, given the district's Republican leanings.
Although Fisher's spokesperson said the donation to Carey was intended to improve political discourse and seek bipartisan solutions, the Ohio congressman's website states that he plans to"[fight] back against the radical Biden-Harris agenda and [take] on anyone who refuses to put America first." Carey received Trump's glowing endorsement and calls himself"pro-Trump" on his campaign website.
