Frank wears vintage Comme des Garçons coat and skirt and vintage Tom Ford for Gucci shoes, all from Replika Vintage. Her own cap, necklaces and earrings. “Some of the necklaces were made by the same women who made the cap. Some of them were made by my grandmother, who I learned a lot from. And some are made by me. I chose them specifically because they showcase the intergenerational passing down of our culture.

“My three-times great grandmother made this cap for her daughter. It’s made of willow sticks and hazel sticks. Willows are actually found alongside the [Trinity Rivers]. The cap is really special to me, because it's a family heirloom.”“It's been passed down to some of the strongest women in my family. Now, I get the honor of wearing it. There's the woodpecker on top, which symbolizes strength in our people.

Trinity River Bridge features a mural painted with a traditional design representing friendship and familial ties.Frank credits the matriarchs in her community for getting her involved in water protection work at such a young age. At 11, she met Margo Robbins, who is now the president of the Cultural Fire Management Council on the Hoopa reservation. Together, they worked on developing her Hoopa Valley High School’s Water Protectors Club.
