Funds with net zero targets must reduce their emissions by 7 per cent annually or risk greenwashing claims and customer anger an investment strategy firm has warned.
It also comes as super customers increase pressure on funds to cut their emissions now, questioning how some of their investments and behaviour in the short-term aligns with their long-term net-zero goals.
“Because the Paris goals are about the aggregate amount of carbon that you issue between now and 2050, the pathway there does matter. You can’t just quickly divest in 2049 and say you got there,” he said.
