The creator of A Million Little Things responds to whether the show could return after season 5. Since its debut in 2018, A Million Little Things has seen a bevy of new arrivals and departures to go along with several plot twists. It seemed that, no matter what happened to the central group of friends in Boston and their families, there was always more story to tell.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an interview with TV Insider, series creator DJ Nash gave a thoughtful and hopeful answer about whether A Million Little Things could be back after season 5. Nash began by pointing out that 'you never know', explaining that he wrote the ending in a way that would leave the possibility open for a follow-up in the future.
“You never know. I definitely leave the door open to something. The way we leave the series would certainly allow for an opportunity to revisit, should we all find ourselves available. I had a plan for what the journey of these characters would be, and every time I come into the room, I have that plan and I’m in awe of when the writers take that plan and make it better. It really is humbling and it’s gratifying. The idea that this is goodbye is — it can’t be. I love this cast so much.
Multiple networks tried to recreate the success of This Is Us. Even now, that style can be gleaned from the new Apple TV+ drama Dear Edward. A Million Little Things wasn't a ratings juggernaut, but it did have a respectable run at a time when most broadcast shows struggle to find a foothold. The ending will hopefully resonate with those that have supported the series through season 5.
A Million Little Things has a season's worth of farewells to get through before it can officially join the list of television shows that end in 2023. Based on his comments though, it sounds like Nash has crafted both a satisfactory send-off and a slight glimpse of what a reboot could look like. As shows have the opportunity to jump to a different network or streaming, A Million Little Things may still return.
