'For Schwartz, Cleveland is one of his most important football homes. For Stefanski, he has a coach he can trust to keep order on defense. For Browns fans, this was a day of hope,' writes Terry Pluto.
BEREA, Ohio – If the Browns were going to keep Kevin Stefanski as the head coach, they needed to do something likeas defensive coordinator. Make that a big-time defensive coordinator with a long history of success, especially in situations that needed revival.
If Belichick and Cleveland hadn’t opened the door to the NFL, Schwartz knows it’s possible no one ever would have given him that chance. Players want to win and they want to get paid. Schwartz has coached a ton of players who did both of those things during his 14 years as a defensive coordinator. He should have credibility with the current Browns.
Jadeveon Clowney was almost irrationally jealous of Myles Garrett. Part of it was Clowney believed Garrett was receiving special treatment. I heard that from some other sources. “We run a very D-Line friendly scheme that removes conflict and allows those guys to be disruptive,” he said. “The way you affect game most in this league is through pass rush ... we set the bar high at that position.” GM Andrew Berry was a key to bringing Schwartz to Cleveland. They were together in Philadelphia in 2019. Berry was an assistant GM, Schwartz the Eagles defensive coordinator.
