The two-story columned mansion, currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has served as a residence or bed and breakfast for most of its history. However, it underwent a significant change in 1955 when one of its owners removed an ornate staircase and the walls of the second-floor bedrooms and library to make way for Masonic lodge meetings, which were held there until 1981.
The home's next owners spent 13 years returning the property to its original state, restoring the walls of the upper floor and the original three-turn staircase. After a 1997 purchase, the structure spent more than 10 years as a bed and breakfast. The current owner said she's made numerous improvements throughout the house since 2014, including turning its former servant’s quarters and garage into an Airbnb. She also added a pergola and outdoor kitchen.
Although known around the neighborhood as the Lion House, the residence's two namesake lion statues weren’t part of the original design. Instead, the current owner added them six years ago to dress up a pair of empty pedestals.
