News24 readers are mostly apprehensive about the energy crisis measures announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa during last week's State of the Nation Address.

Disillusioned by the ANC government's inability to fix the load shedding crisis in recent years, most News24 readers aren't sold that the new measures will yield results under Ramaphosa's current administration.

As a consequence of growing distrust towards the government, some News24 readers feared that corrupt officials could use the disaster declaration to further abuse state funds and resources. According to another user named wartpig,"the solution proposed by Ramaphosa perpetuates political interference so it is doomed to failure". However, some News24 readers believe Ramaphosa's measures could make a positive impact with the right people in his executive team. They advised that the president was setting himself up for failure, unless he makes crucial changes to his Cabinet.

Lizabee said it was time to"reduce ministers and fire non performers", while Richard001 argued that a"complete overhaul of all key ministerial roles" was needed."People like [Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Gwede] Mantashe have done absolutely nothing to alleviate our energy crisis and should be fired," they continued.

"The appointment of an electricity minister without devolving real power to him, so he can approve changes to Eskom's operating model and override decisions taken by the ideologically challenged shareholder representative, Pravin Gordham, will not have any meaningful effect on Eskom's" - user956626
