A judge has dismissed a criminal case against former Cottonwood Heights City council member Tali Bruce, citing misconduct by the city's police department.
Bruce was initially charged with interfering with an officer, stemming from an August 2020 incident during a rally for Zane James, who was shot and killed by police. The judge dismissed the charge "with prejudice," meaning the case cannot be brought back to court. Bruce has long claimed that she was unfairly targeted by the Cottonwood Heights Police Department."She has long said that she's been a target and an unfair target of Cottonwood Heights Police Department," Delicino said.
"It was a problem not to produce the information, a problem that was compounded and metastasized essentially by submitting declarations that denied the existence of that information," Delicino said.In response to the dismissal, the Cottonwood Heights Mayor Michael Weichers issued a statement: "The city is disappointed with the decision and is considering legal options. The city will not comment further on this pending legal matter.
