The inside track on the football stories that matter
Declan Rice’s return to the London Stadium for Arsenal’s League Cup clash has divided the West Ham United fanbase.
The 24-year-old was at West Ham for a decade and ended his tenure in East London as the captain, departing on the back of the Hammers’ historic Europa Conference League victory. Others remained more neutral but insisted that his past contributions to the Hammers means he does not deserve any jeers from the crowds. My take on the reception Rice should get tomorrow, none. Ignore him. No boos or cheers. He’s just another player. He has wanted to leave for 2/3 years and ended up leaving this summer, so certainly doesn’t deserve cheers but also shouldn’t get booed.
