An off\u002Dduty lifeguard is being credited for helping to save the life of an 80\u002Dyear\u002Dold man who fell into the Ottawa River earlier this week.
The man fell out of a boat on Tuesday near the Cumberland Ferry, according to the Ottawa Police Service.Passengers on a nearby ferry spotted him in the water at 7:39 p.m.
The elderly man was suffering from hypothermia, “indicating he had been in the water for a lengthy time,” according to police. Paramedics treated the man and determined that his condition was not life-threatening.
