The Matrix franchise has failed to live up to the influence and thrills of the original movie, but each sequel has standalone spectacular moments.
The Wachowski sisters-directed The Matrix is undisputedly the greatest movie in the franchise, but while the three sequels didn't live up to the original, they still had some great moments and interesting concepts. The original 1999 movie was a phenomenal success, as it featured groundbreaking action sequences, and it had a thought-provoking philosophical narrative that didn't talk down to its audience.
7 Neo Vs. Seraph The fight between Neo and Seraph doesn't make much sense in the context of the film, and it feels like an excuse to shoehorn in a battle early on in The Matrix Reloaded, as Seraph simply explains, "You do not truly know someone until you fight them." Given that most fights following Neo and Seraph's altercation were all epic battles full of CGI, this marks the final time the franchise showcased great kung fu choreography.
5 The "White Rabbit" Montage The Matrix movies had never been known for their humor, but Wachowski made the 2021 release notably more lighthearted with meta jokes. It was another divisive choice, and there's no doubt that The Matrix Resurrections was too meta, but it works in the "White Rabbit" montage.
