Stomper Joey alerted Stomp to the incident and shared a video of smoke coming from the roof of the shopping mall at about 6.20pm."We did not notice if there was any evacuation but we saw Singapore Civil Defence Force personnel and vehicles parked next to the building at 7.50pm."

In response to a Stomp query, the SCDF said they were alerted to a fire at 2 Tampines Central 5 at about 6.20pm. "The fire involved contents of a deep fryer in a restaurant located on the fifth floor," an SCDF spokesman said. "Members of the public attempted to extinguish the fire using buckets of water prior to SCDF's arrival."About 20 people self-evacuated prior to the arrival of SCDF.There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
