A 7-year-old girl is fighting for her life in a Bronx hospital after she was stabbed several times, and police said her grandmother is now in custody

Neighbors near Clinton and East 169th streets in the Morrisania neighborhood heard the scream around 8 a.m., then saw the unimaginable sight: the young girl laying motionless in the arms of a police officer, who found her unconscious after being called to the scene. "Nobody wants to hear that a child got hurt, especially in your neighborhood where your children go to school. Where you take care of children. That’s terrible. I feel really bad," said Anna Martinez, who runs an at-home daycare nearby and saw the girl in the cop's arms.
Martinez said the officer carried the girl to his police vehicle and immediately took off before an ambulance arrived.Law enforcement sources told NBC New York that a family member inside the home discovered the girl had been stabbed multiple times in her chest and neck. The male relative quickly called police and told them his mother had stabbed his niece, sources said.The girl was critically wounded in the incident.
