Some new attractions include Melaka Floating Market and Taman Kucing Klang, a stray cat park.
SINGAPORE – When planning a no-frills getaway, Malaysia is arguably one of the top destinations for Singaporeans.
“It’s more cost-effective to holiday in Malaysia since I get so much more value there for the same amount I would have spent in Singapore,” adds Ms Chew, who usually spends time in the Taman Mount Austin area of JB located around a 20-minute car ride from the checkpoint. Singaporeans are Malaysia’s most frequent visitors. From January to June, Malaysia recorded around 4.27 million tourist arrivals from Singapore – way ahead of those from Indonesia and China – according to statistics by Tourism Malaysia.
Vendors at Melaka Floating Market sell snacks and drinks from sampans, or rowboats. PHOTO: MELAKA FLOATING MARKET/FACEBOOK Melaka Floating Market and Windmill Pink Market are both initiatives meant to boost Melaka’s tourism, as the state runs its Visit Melaka Year 2024 campaign.Located about a 35-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur’s city centre, Wet World Shah Alam is a family-friendly water park with multiple rides suitable for all ages.
Those who plan on keeping their mobile devices on hand while exploring the water park should have a waterproof carrier with a strap for ease of holding. Compact action cameras can also be kept on hand while taking rides, but should be secured to one’s body. Klang is a four-hour drive from Singapore or 45 minutes from KL. It is known for its bak kut teh and heritage buildings, and is a popular day-trip destination for those visiting KL.Every Saturday, the carpark at Angsana Johor Bahru Mall, a 20-minute drive from the checkpoint, turns into a bazaar of vintage goods.
The vendors may change every weekend, although more popular ones – such as some selling unique furniture and collectibles – tend to be a mainstay. There are plenty of photos to be taken with dinosaurs – like the Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops – set against a desert backdrop. The models also have mechanics for vocalisation and movement to bring the park to life.
In a social media video that has garnered five million views on TikTok, UST Watersports, a water sport and drone services company in Langkawi, shows brightly coloured jet cars zipping across the sea. While the company says the activity is not quite ready for the public yet, it plans to start operations for jet cars by September.
