Also on the first night bill were Deco and Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Another summer of civilised shows in the Nottinghamshire woodlands kicked off with an astoundingly musical Friday night with Nile Rodgers and Chic. It was part of the Forest Live, which is a major series of shows held in the nation's forest at various sites including at Sherwood Pines, near King's Clipstone.
Now 71, with a career spanning more than half a century, Nile Rodgers has done just about everything. His way with chord changes and his frankly virtuosic musicianship has changed the face of popular music. Co-founder of the blazingly influential Chic with bassist Bernard Edwards, he blasted to the top of charts around the globe.
What followed was a kaleidoscopic parade of Chic classics – Everybody Dance, Chic Cheer/Love Like This, My Feet Keep Dancing, Dance, Dance, Dance , My Forbidden Lover et al – coupled with equally famous songs he and Edwards wrote and produced for Sister Sledge – He’s The Greatest Dancer, We Are Family, Lost In Music and, most touchingly, Thinking Of You, dedicated to Edwards, who died in 1996.
