During their Peace, Love, and Tolerance Road Trip, the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative made a heartwarming stop in Cape Town, delivering warmth and smiles to 20 children at Morningstar Childcare Centre in Durbanville.
Spearheaded by founder Carolyn Steyn and supported by Cape Town ambassador Elizabeth Leukes, the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative is a national and global movement dedicated to spreading warmth.
The initiative, which was started 11 years ago to commemorate Nelson Mandela Day, has grown into a symbol of hope that inspires people all over the world to join in knitting blankets for those less fortunate. Former Nelson Mandela’s assistant Zelda la Grange tasked Carolyn Steyn to knit, crochet, or sew 67 blankets on Mandela Day in December 2013.
This challenge led to the founding of the global initiative 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, which is devoted to giving blankets to individuals who require them., this year, the organisation has returned to its roots with a nationwide road trip to deliver blankets across the country. Starting in George in April, the journey concludes this weekend, marking the end of a heartfelt mission.“I chose this charity because it’s an organisation that looks after mothers and children, and most of the parents cannot afford to send their children to preschool or Grade R, or they didn’t get a spot at school.
