This is a list of inconsequential activities — apart from whatever amusement, enrichment or inspiration they may bring you. We present them at a time of year when you might be inclined to try something new. Here are six courses and activities to help you broaden your horizons and have a little fun in 2023.

Do things as simple as staring into the sky — think cloud reporting and identifying celestial objects — and you can help make scientific discoveries, and even earn a co-author credit on a scientific publication. There are currently 32 projects open to collaborators worldwide and you only need a cell phone or laptop to participate in most.
